As the spring season approaches for East Haven, sports are starting to prepare. The EHHS Yellowjacket girls softball team is getting ready for a great season. The team is coached by head coach Ed Crisafi and assisted by Karen Casagnola, Michael Archambault, and Matthew Coyle. After finishing last season with a 10-11 record, the team is striving to do even better this season and make it to the state tournament.
Pitchers and catchers practices start on March 14th while the whole team’s practices start on March 21st. Following shortly after is their first scrimmage taking place on March 26th. There are no tryouts to join. If interested in joining the team, contact one of the team members or Coach Crisafi. “Anyone is welcome to join,” Coach Crisafi said.
The Yellowjackets have been staying active and preparing for practices to start. “I keep up with my skills during off season and get in the cages, stay positive, and have confidence,” junior designated hitter Stella Frat explained. “The key part of the game is to have confidence”. The majority of the returning players also stay active by playing on travel teams and other sports.
The team has set goals for the upcoming season. Improve their record, make it to the state and SCC tournament, and have confidence. “The girls all have their individual goals that they make,” Coach Crisafi said. “My goal is to have more hits and have a better batting average than last year,” sophomore catcher Gabby Dion said. Coach Crisafi believes that this year will be a great season for the girls.
There are a few freshmen playing their first season of their high school career. “My advice for the girls is to just relax and try to fit in,” Coach Crisafi stated. “We meet once a month to stress togetherness and make everyone feel comfortable.” Freshman Lily Esposito states, “I am excited to be on the team with my friends and have a good season”.
