Running from East Haven To UNH: Tyler Varveris and Liam Gilson Commit D1 For Track

Two stellar EHHS Track athletes are coming off an amazing track season full of personal records and school records. Liam Gilson and Tyler Varveris are heading to the University of New Haven to continue their track careers.

Both athletes have had many achievements this year. Liam stated how his biggest accomplishment was “Getting my unofficial school record in the 800, in my last indoor meet.” He also talks about how this race “set [him] up for a good outdoor season.” On the other hand, Tyler said that his biggest accomplishment was “Making top 10 in the state in my event.”

Liam is a middle-distance runner mainly doing the 800m, which is two sets around the track. He focuses on keeping a good pace, and having good cardio. Liam over the offseason was “working on mileage and speed” to improve in these things and in return had a great season.

Tyler is a sprinter maining the 100m, and 200m this focuses on top end speed and acceleration. Tyler spent the offseason “in the weight room” to get stronger and improve his burst and speed which helped him finish top 10 in the state in his race.
