Keepin’ It Reel: 3 Movies That Will Make You Appreciate Your Mother

Keepin It Reel: 3 Movies That Will Make You Appreciate Your Mother

Brave

Genre: Adventure, Animated

Isabella’s Rating:★★★★

Brave follows a young princess, Marida, who wants to make her own name in life with her excellent archery skills. Her mother sees this as a defiance in life, as her mother is very controlling throughout the movie. Merida decides to visit a witch to veer her mother away from this idea, but ends up turning her mother into a bear. Throughout the story she creates a better bond with her mother as getting through this hardship.

This Disney movie is very underrated, but I think the music and themes in this movie are quite entertaining when watching. I love the creative magical elements that are incorporated into this movie. Disney rarely makes any creative new ideas anymore so looking back and seeing a good story is very refreshing when watching. I love the themes in this movie showing how even when there is disputes between a parent and their child, it can be overcome with effort from both sides. The biggest highlight of this movie Ii believe is the music that they used in this movie. I also highly enjoy the humor in this movie, with the brothers, and the lore behind the world with the three kings.

Matilda

Genre: Fantasy, childrens

Isabella’s Rating:★★★★

Matilda follows a young girl who is abnormally smart for her age, she goes to a school that has a very toxic principle, but a teacher that believes in her more than anyone else ever has. Her family as a whole does not support Matilda and neglects her throughout her childhood. This movie will appreciate your mom, seeing how awfully Matilda’s mother treats her.

This movie is such a classic when it comes to movies our generation watched when they were little. Seeing her family treat her so poorly is obviously extremely sad, but seeing the contrast in the way her teacher treats her is very refreshing. It is so heartwarming to see Matilda grow up and learn from a mother figure that she didn’t have previously. The magical element in this movie is very interesting, as it is very subtle, but as close to reality as a magical ability could be. A lot of the scenes in this movie are dramatized because they are from the perspective of a child, which I think is very interesting on the directing side of things. Overall I think this movie is great to watch with family, or to reminisce on your childhood years.

Titanic

Genre: Romance, Action

Isabella’s Rating:★★★

Titanic follows Jack and Rose who meet on the famous ship the Titanic. They ultimately fall in love with each other, which is forbidden as Rose is from a very high class family, and Jack is a very poor orphan. Rose’s mother does not agree with her choice of mother and forbids her from being with him.

Titanic is a very sad story in the end, and in result, enrages many people who have watched it. You watch two people meet and fall in love, which ends in tragedy that was not justifiable in my opinion. This movie is a classic and is a very action packed watch, while you fall in love with these two characters and their relationship. It is definitely worth the watch just to say that you have watched it, but the ending is disappointing in my opinion. The family of Rose in this movie enrages me as a watcher, as they are portrayed as controlling and evil in the social world. They are of a very high class and as a result are entitled when looking down on lower class individuals. I am very thankful for my family, especially my mother, after this watch. I think this movie is a great watch if you want to cry, and be engaged in a thrilling story at the same time.
