Ed[ucators] Rising is a new club at EHHS for students to learn and experience what it takes to become teachers and leaders. The club, which has been at the school for three years, helps students work with younger kids and learn more about education. Right now, 46 students are signed up for the program across the school.
The club is run by Mrs. Patricia Robinson. Every year, students can join by filling out a form sent to the school. Students can also join by walking in or sending an email. The goal of Ed Rising is to train students who may want to become teachers or help children in the future. Members can even include the club on college or job applications.
Ed Rising is part of a national group that used to be called “Rising Educators.” It teaches students about diversity, challenges in schools, and how to work with children. The club also holds events like competitions where students can create children’s books, novels, and other projects. Members meet a couple of times each month whenever schedules allow. One of the biggest struggles for the club is finding enough time to meet and plan activities.
Students in the club can also become student ambassadors. A student ambassador is a leader who helps plan events, create activities, and work closely with Mrs. Robinson. There is no voting process. Students who show leadership and help run events can earn the role.
During meetings, students do activities that are different from the school’s education classes. Members say the education classes are more systematic and go deeper into learning, while Ed Rising gives students hands-on experiences. Club members often work with elementary and middle school students as teacher assistants. They also help with birthday events and other activities.
Many say working with younger children is one of the best parts of the club. Teachers are happy to see the members, and students describe the environment as positive and welcoming. Ed Rising continues to give students at EHHS the chance to learn, lead, and inspire younger students every year.
