The EHHS Drama Club is performing “Bye Bye Birdie”, their final play of the 2025-2026 school year, this April at EHHS! Teacher, Miss Collins, the educator behind it all, is working hard alongside her students and always looking for new members. This year’s play takes place in the 50s, featuring a fictional character who is a satirized version of Elvis Presley named Conrad Birdie. The story is inspired by the story of Elvis getting drafted into the army and causing a widespread panic.
This play is to be performed on April 9th, 10th, and 11th, at 7 PM at EHHS. Tickets are always available at the door and will be available online as the date gets closer at ehhsdramaclub.ludus.com. Tickets are priced at $14 for adults and $12 for students and small children. These details are managed and organized by Ms. Collins, who goes above and beyond in her work in theatrical production! She is in charge of choosing a fun and engaging play, then getting it approved, collaborating with the set designers to plan what the set is going to be, and planning with the music director to determine when music rehearsals will begin. Ms. Collins also manages the ticket website, creates posters for the play, manages costumes, and assigns roles. Ms. Collins has been working at EHHS since the 2018-2019 school year and teaching the EHHS Drama Club since the 2019-2020 school year. Studying theater, having a degree in it, and previously being a student member of the EHHS Drama Club drove her to want to teach it. Ms. Collins enjoys the communal and rewarding aspects of being able to teach and create alongside others, show passion and dedication, and achieve goals within the club.
The drama club meets three to four times a week but it also depends on your role within the club. When practicing specific songs or scenes, only the assigned members will be called to rehearsal. Roles within the club include actors, backstage crew, and build and paint crew. The backstage crew manages the technical aspects of the show such as lighting, organizing props, and putting props into place. The build and paint crew is responsible for helping build and paint the set and props.
Anyone can join the club in any roles, there are no prerequisites, just auditioning for certain acting roles if you’re interested. Ms. Collins says, “We actually really still do need more people for both cast and crew, so I’m happy to have anyone in either.” The EHHS Drama Club is a welcoming, hard-working, and committed community. Positivity and positive intentions are the key to their success and ensure a respectful environment for all. If you’re interested in becoming a part of their thrilling experiences, make sure to contact Ms. Collins or pay her a visit in E114. Don’t miss out on seeing “Bye Bye Birdie” at EHHS this April!
