Meet Mrs. Profetto: Cooking up Goodness in Culinary

Meet+Mrs.+Profetto%3A+Cooking+up+Goodness+in+Culinary

Mrs. Heather Profetto joined her husband, Mr. John Profetto in the EHHS culinary department this fall, bringing in new ideas.

Mrs. Profetto isn’t relatively new to the EHHS community. She helped with previous projects, such as providing food for the art show last year. She was hired by EHHS Assistant Principal, Mrs. Amy Farotti and is now enjoying working alongside her husband John Profetto.

Outside of school, Mrs. Profetto enjoys riding bikes with her husband, knitting/crocheting, hiking, and fishing. She has a farm where she raises chickens and keeps bees. She loves vegetable gardening, where she plants tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, etc. She has 3 sons, who worked with her at the restaurant her family previously owned. One of her sons is even cooking for a living. She loves to travel, especially going to new restaurants to view and eating different cuisines. She was in Italy this past summer on a “food culinary tour.” In Italy, she made cheese at a dairy farm, and she took a cooking class with her family.

Her idol is Julia Child, she was a French cook on PBS tv and the first woman person on tv to do cooking before food tv. Heather knew she wanted to be a cook at the age of 13 so she rigorously waited for Julia Child’s cooking session to come up on tv. Waiting with her notebook pad and pen, writing as fast as she could the recipes Julia was doing. The first thing that Mrs. Profetto learned to make was a chocolate mouse with the recipe of Julia Child. When her parents hosted parties, she would be the one who would do the cooking for all the guests.

Mrs. Profetto has been in the culinary field for most of her life, she attended the Culinary Institute of America. Heather and John owned a restaurant for 30 years where she did the cooking and Mr. Profetto ran the business side. When the restaurant closed, she transition to teaching, for 2 years at a CT technical high school. In that school, “Students go to shop for 2 weeks and then they go to academics for 2 weeks when I had my students from 6:45 a.m. to 2:10 p.m.” At EHHS she only has her students for 81 minutes, she says “it’s much harder to shorten the information and to cook for the rest of the block.” She is still trying to balance the different schedule routines but she loves having Mr. Profetto by her side since they weren’t working together for 2 years.

Mr. Profetto describes Mrs. Profetto as a teacher who is 10 times better of a teacher than he is. She is someone that he can look up to and learn from, he describes their relationship as “we are a good complement for each other.” Mr. and Mrs. Profetto met when she started working at Mr. Profetto’ dad’s job.

Mrs. Farrotti, describes Mrs. Proffetto as a “go-getter; she has big dreams and aspirations, which I’m very excited about and to see in Cafe Maestro. She is super kind, when I ask for help she is always glad to assist me. She also wants the best for our students, she sees great potential.” She also gets a kick out of it since “I find it comical, because I don’t think a lot of people can work with their spouse every day. It’s really hard. I think they work very well together.” Mrs. Farroti wants to partner with the Profettos, for teacher appreciation week and for a fun activity of having students bring dishes from their heritage and display them in the lobby.

Mrs. Proffeto is excited to continue on her culinary journey at EHHS teaching Culinary 1 and Culinary 2. She has many plans for her Mastery Based Learning Diploma Assessment/Capstone class, Cafe Maestro, which she plans to help out alongside Mr. Profetto. She is also a member of the PFO, and is already planning surprises for teacher appreciation week. She hopes that her students gather a different perspective about cooking and the job that it has to offer. Mrs. Profetto is very passionate about cooking and teaching how to cook. We welcome her to the EHHS community.
