Matteus Ponte is a junior at EHHS and he plays soccer. he started playing when he was 2 1/2 years old. Matteus started playing in a premier league for South Central Premier team when he was just 7 years old and has been playing since then. “I learned how to play through my dad and watching my favorite player Cristiano Ronaldo.” Matteus has been on varsity since his freshman year and has started in every game since then, he is currently in his third year playing. “I will always play hard and try my best no matter what.” He has played as a striker and full-back throughout his high school career so far.
During their first game this season versus Bassick High School, Matteus was injured and was out for 2 weeks. He fought hard those two weeks for his team and came back even stronger. During his first game back he scored his first goal of the season vs Lyman Hall High School. He did everything he could that game for his team and they won that night. During his second game back vs Career/Hillhouse, he played an amazing game and scored 2 amazing goals. He shared,“Even though I had a hard start to the season, I will still try my hardest for my team and get us where we want to be for this season which is states.”
Matteus has continued to bring great power and aura to the team so far. He shared, “I do everything I can in the game to make my family proud.” Soccer has always been Matteus passion and he wants to continue soccer after high school. His coach shared, “As well as being a great player on the field, Matteus brings a great energy off of it. He is funny and makes connections with his teammates, he is someone that the team as a whole enjoy working with.”
The soccer team made it to states after many years of falling short. Good luck to them for their states game coming up. I wish Matteus good luck in the future and keep putting in the hard work.
