When Gemma, a roboticist, gains custody of her 8 year old niece, Cady, she struggles at being a caretaker. Gemma creates M3GAN, a life-like doll meant to be the companion and parent of a child at the same time. M3GAN essentially protects, befriends, and teaches whoever she is paired with. However, M3GAN begins to take her role too seriously and there are some unimaginable consequences.

This movie was actually way better than I expected it to be. I wanted to see it because I thought it would be so bad that it would be funny. However, the acting was actually really good, the production seemed great, and I was entertained the entire time. It’s also a great commentary on how many parents are relying on technology to teach their children and just how wrong that could go. Also, I’m not a huge fan of horror movies, especially ones that are super violent and gross. M3GAN is the perfect type of horror movie for me though: it has very few jump scares and there aren’t many graphic scenes.
Considering I gave it 3 stars, I have strong opinions about what I didn’t like. For one, I consider it more of a comedy rather than a horror (and so does everyone else I have asked). I found myself and the audience laughing hysterically, especially when she danced before killing someone and sang not once but twice. There’s no doubt in my mind that this was intentional, too. Another thing I hated was how short the movie was. I felt like there could have been more to the story. It felt like 30 minutes into the movie M3GAN was already going crazy. It could have been more eased into. I would have liked to have seen more about Cady and how she dealt with the death of her parents as well. This definitely would have added to the plot and allowed people to see why Gemma thought Cady needed M3GAN.
Overall, it was far more entertaining than I thought it would be and I would definitely watch it again but there could have been so much more to the plot.
