Yours Truly follows Briana, who is an emergency room doctor, navigating her life after a divorce. Then a new doctor, Jacob, transfers into Briana’s hospital and his first impression of Briana is not very good. Yours Truly follows Briana and Jacob getting closer after both of them experience hard break ups, and you watch as they heal each other while also healing themselves in the process.
Yours Truly is part of an interconnected standalone series that follows other couples within this universe. This is the second book in the series, and is told from both main characters’ perspectives.
Yours Truly is one of my favorite romances I have ever read, the chemistry that the 2 main characters have is incomparable to any other main characters that I have read about. One of my favorite parts of this book is how the 2 characters have other things in their life they are dealing with, but are able to work through that obstacle with the other person. For a large part of the story, the reader is following both Briana and Jacob grow closer as friends, but also develop feelings for each other. It was such a refreshing experience to see these two people grow to become better as their relationship blossoms.
The story also follows Jacob’s mental health journey with anxiety, and how it affects his life and the people around him. The way that Abby Jimenez describes Jacobs inner dialogue was so beautifully written, that I could have read a story about him alone. It also follows Briana’s struggles with PTSD after a previous relationship. Normally I don’t like this in books, because I feel like it is just a plot device to keep the story going longer, or keep the two love interests apart. This plot point actually helped Briana and Jacob grow as a couple, which I really appreciated.
There is nothing that I could say about this book that brought my reading experience down. Watching the characters in their everyday life and navigating through their problems was one of the best reading experiences I have ever had. Briana and Jacob feel like real people with how much we got from them in this book, and I can’t wait to see them in the other books that are a part of this universe.
