During the holidays when you want something hot and warm, like hot chocolate, you’d likely want a mug for it. Ms. Sampeur’s Ceramics 1 class takes this on as the 4th project for the course. Ceramics 1 focuses on teaching basic ceramic crafting skills. During the weeks leading up to winter break, the class makes custom mugs. The mugs can be themed to anything the student wants and they are able to sculpt and glaze/paint a mug. One student in her class, Sophomore Arielyz Rios, has been making a mug based off the Nickelodeon series Rocko’s Modern Life. This mug features a sketched design of the main character Rocko and his dog Spunky. Arielys took the time to sketch the design on paper and sculpt it into the mug. At the current moment she is still designing it, but within the coming weeks she will get to glaze/paint the mug, and bring it home for regular everyday use. Ms. Sampier does this project every year with her Ceramics 1 class, and the designs always get more creative, just like Arielys’.
