CNA is a program at EHHS led by Mrs. Li Martin for people who are planning on entering into the medical field. For the 2024-2025 school year, Anthony Fazio and Nicolas Balseiro are the only two boys at our school who are involved in the CNA program.
Mrs. Martin says, “Every year we typically have a high number of young ladies who apply to our Nurse Assistant program. However, this does not mean that others are not welcome. In the past, the gentlemen and nontraditional students who’ve gone through CNA have done just as well as the ladies because gender makes absolutely no difference in the quality of care that our students give. Diversity is the best in healthcare because our patients are diverse and we need all types of people to take care of them all.”
Nicolas Balseiro and Anthony Fazio also said that the program does not feel any different for them than it does for the girls. The CNA class has grown together not just as a class, but also as a family. The CNA program is very hands-on and the workload is a lot, however there is a lot to learn from the work and it prepares people within the program for joining the medical workforce.
Anthony Fazio says, “I would recommend joining CNA to other boys. A lot of boys believe that it’s weird just doing CNA because they think it’s a girls class, but it’s not. It’s for anybody and anyone can do it. [I]f someone wants to go into the medical field then I’d highly suggest taking CNA too.” Joining CNA helps to learn good ethics and skills to help prepare our community who is preparing to join the workforce in a medical field in the future.
