This October the drama club continued their tradition of Try-Tober by participating in a variety of drama-based activities, run by Ms. Kari Collins. It allows returning members to come back and have fun and new people try out everything they do in drama club, such as singing, dancing, and acting to see if they like it. This also allows people to work on these traits before committing to the spring musical. The drama club started Try-Tober on October 2, 2024, and met almost every Wednesday in October for an hour and a half. Ms. Collins and Callie have been doing Try-Tober for 3 years now.

The premise of Try-Tober is to give Drama Club a try. Ms. Collins suggests just having an open mind and being ready to try something new. They do improv games, singing, and dancing. They teach you the skills during the meetings so you don’t have to come in with any prior knowledge. You just learn what to do in the moment. The events were organized by Ms. Collins and her co-advisor and director, Callie Fusco. They prepare for the event by telling students to spread the word. The main goal is to recruit people so she asks the drama club members to bring a friend to come try it out. Ms. Collins chooses the improv games and gets all of the materials for the activities.

EHHS Junior, Jaidyn Torres, says “Try-Tober impacts me because it gives me the chance to learn more about being on stage than I did before. It gives me the chance to connect with new people who might also be really interested with being on stage. Being a part of Try-Tober gives me the chance to improve on my acting, singing, and dancing because, as said in the name, we try! It’s all about trying and putting yourself out there to try new things. It’s a really fun experience and I think a lot of people should give it a try.”

Drama club member, Kim Carrera, also shares that Try-Tober allows people to “dip their toes in the water” before deciding to commit fully to the club.
