Mrs. Andrea Alexander has been the Guidance Administrative Assistant at EHHS since last November. With experience in various roles, she plays a key part in supporting students and staff.
Before joining EHHS, Mrs. Alexander worked in an office at a funeral home, at an HVAC company, and as a paraprofessional in special education. After an injury, she took time off work. Once she was ready to return, she searched job sites and found an opening in East Haven. She interviewed for a position at Joseph Melillo Middle School but chose to pursue the job at EHHS instead.
Mrs. Alexander graduated from a high school in Brooklyn, New York, one of the schools used to record some scenes for Spider-man. Her graduating class was 900 students, which is almost 5 times the amount of the current senior class at EHHS.
To become an administrative assistant at EHHS, candidates must take a test that includes math and English. Mrs. Alexander found the test was more challenging than she expected. She went into this test not knowing it included those sections and was a bit surprised. She originally thought it was a simple civil test.
Each day, Mrs. Alexander manages student registrations. She checks emails and voicemails, answers phone calls, and helps students with community service hours as well as with college transcripts. She also works with security, parents, teachers, administrators, and counselors to arrange meetings with parents and tours for new students.
In her free time, Mrs. Alexander likes going to concerts, watching Netflix, reading, and dining out with friends. She also has a background in singing, having performed with her vocal coach multiple times on stage.
As a vital member of East Haven High School, Mrs. Alexander continues to create a supportive environment for students. “If you have a passion for something, or you think you might have a passion for something, give it a shot,” Mrs Alexander says, “Don’t give up, cause you never know unless you try something.”
