Senior Spotlight: Softball 2023

As spring approaches, the softball team has high expectations for a successful season and a potential SCC team.

Last year, the EHHS softball team had a very successful season with a 23-4 record and ended being first in their league. This year, our new seniors prepare to take a leadership role and keep high hopes for the upcoming season. The seniors, Lily Gagnon, Autumn Clancy, Gianna Bernovich, and Arielle Dupree, talk about the highs and lows of being a senior this year. The team lost a lot of members this year and have gained members that have not played since they were young, so our seniors are feeling a lot of pressure. According to Gianna Bernovich, “We only lost three seniors this year, but they were key players. There are more new players this year than returning players. The expectations are higher as a senior and you have to encourage [underclassmen] and let them know that it is okay to be nervous.”

Gianna also discussed the goals and hopes they have for the season and what she is going to miss the most. She says, “We are looking forward to developing new players this year and making the team stronger. I am definitely going to miss the feeling of being a part of a team and having a goal to finish.” The other girls are looking forward to getting to know everyone and making new memories. Autumn Clancy says that, “I want to lead and show what it’s like to be a part of the EHHS softball team. I like how we all push each other to be better and I’m definitely going to miss that. I’m also going to miss how close everyone on the team is; it’s like having another family.” Arielle Dupree has different goals for this season, “I am looking forward to showing the rest of the school our potential and what a good team we are.” The seniors stress the importance of taking things one step at a time and to really enjoy the season as it goes by. Lily Gagnon talks about the hope of a potential SCC team. She says, “It’s the same as any other year. Just go out there, do what we do, and look for our end result. We are excited to see how far we go this year, but we have to take it one step at a time.”

Come support the seniors and the rest of the team as they kick off the season on April 1st against North Branford at home!
