The movie, Warfare came out in movie theatres on April 11th, 2025, and didn’t have a large following or build up like most movies when they are close to coming out, but the movie was a massive success and left audiences stunned and shocked by the unforgettable acting performances and visuals the movie contains.
Warfare is set in Ramadi, Iraq 2006, during the Iraq War. The film is based on a real-life mission undertaken by Navy SEALS. The whole film takes place in a two-story home, which is where the team is conducting a surveillance operation in al-Quda-controlled territory. The film is a total recreation of the actual testimony and memoirs of the Navy Seals who survived what would be an ambush that included heavy explosions and gunfire.
The movie is filmed entirely without music, and the sound effects, like gunfire and bombs, are as loud as they could possibly be, especially if you’re seeing the film in theaters. The film’s purpose was to show people how war and fighting is not the cool, brave and heroic thing it is shown to be by popular media. This is why there was no music and through the whole second half of the movie the soldiers who got wounded during the initial attack never stop there petrifying screams of agony from wounds, this was meant to show how war can “overload” a person and their mind between many different factors, which the film definitely accomplishes.
I felt that I could really feel pressure from the movie; the constant booming of gunfire and screams were exhausting, which is what the director said they wanted to portray. When the film ended, I seriously took a breath of air before I got up from my seat.
If you’re ever bored or in the mood for a truly intriguing and suspenseful war movie, definitely go see Warfare.
