The National Technical Honor Society is a statewide organization that awards and recognizes students for their excellence in career and technical education. As of this past school year, we have a new chapter of the honor society at EHHS.
Mrs. Li Martin and Mr. Michael Iavarone are both in charge of the EHHS chapter of this national organization. Mrs. Martin brought this organization to EHHS from a HOSA conference last year. So far, we have 9 students that have applied this year. This organization is only for juniors and seniors.
All students who are accepted into the organization are able to include this on their college and job applications since colleges and technical programs can see how serious they are. All graduating seniors will receive a purple cord at graduation to indicate their acceptance into the honor society.
To join this organization, there’s a sign up sheet outside of Mrs. Martin’s room (E312) that any junior or senior can fill out. All applicants must maintain acceptable attendance standing, which may need to be approved by the administration.
Our next step at EHHS for the NTHS is inducting the first class of eligible students. Mrs. Martin and Mr. Iavarone are also hoping to make this more student-led and also hope to push the state of CT to take the NTHS more seriously as well as giving grant money for students. Once you are inducted, there will be monthly meetings discussing fundraisers and making NTHS more useful and impactful across the school and state. If you have any questions about this program, you can email Mrs. Martin and Mr. Iavarone.
