Senior Brandom Santos Says Goodbye to EHHS Wrestling

EHHS senior and wrestling team captain, Brandom Santos says goodbye to his high school wrestling career after a successful season. Brandom says, “I’m saddened by how I won’t be wrestling for East Haven High School anymore.” Brandom became captain of the wrestling team this year during his second season wrestling with the EHHS team.

Wrestling is the first sport he has ever played at EHHS. Brandom had two great seasons and says the hardest thing to keep in mind is that you have to be more aggressive than the other person. When at a tournament, Brandom also said that you have to make sure you know what your next move will be to win and you have to have a better mindset than your opponent.

Coach Neil Merola has been coaching Brandom since he was a junior and says that he has “seen a lot of growth from him. He came in [as] a super athletic kid but didn’t know anything about the sport. By the end of his junior year, he was a lot better, a lot more skilled, and winning a lot more matches. [Come] senior year, he became a force to be reckoned with. He was bearing kids better than him, kids at his level, and he really made an impact.”

Merola’s advice for Brandom in the future is to “keep smiling, keep that smile on his face at all times. He’s got a great smile, always stay true to himself, he’s a great kid, a great person and that alone will be able to carry him into his future.”
