The E-Hall (now Securly) Pass system, which is meant to help track where students are in school, often gets a lot of complaints from both students and teachers. But why do people feel this way about it?
Securly Pass is an electronic version of the old paper pass system. The system was introduced to help keep track of students moving around EHHS. The change to E-Hall Pass happened after schools used QR codes briefly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, using the E-Hall Pass can be tricky. Many students and staff have found it confusing and hard to use. They have pointed out that there aren’t clear buttons or links that explain how the system started or how it works, which leaves people with many questions.
Despite these problems, E-Hall Pass is used in lots of schools, not just EHHS. Schools like Athens High School in Michigan, Bluffton High School in South Carolina, and Auburn High School in Washington are also using it, as well as the middle school district connected to EHHS.
To understand what people really think about the E-Hall Pass, we asked some questions in interviews. But many people (especially teachers) were shy about sharing their opinions. Some even asked for their quotes to be removed from this article. When asked their opinion on E-Hall Pass, the answers varied from small complaints to strong frustration. One teacher said, “I wish we utilized it better; in theory, it’s a good idea,” while others mentioned, “It could be managed a lot better,” and “No one checks you in.” Some people talked about issues like the maximum number of students allowed at once and how it interrupts classes. One unhappy student plainly said, “It sucks.”
On a brighter note, some people agreed that the E-Hall Pass is easier than writing out paper passes, which could save time. However, the overall feelings about the system seem to be more negative.
Principal Vincent DeNuzzo defended E-Hall Pass by saying it has benefits compared to paper passes. He explained that it helps keep track of where students are supposed to be. “If I gave you a paper pass to the lab, I would have no idea where you were or where you were supposed to be. With electronic passes, we can accurately monitor where students are and when they are there,” he stated.
In summary, while the E-Hall Pass system has some clear advantages, like better tracking of student movements and being more efficient than paper passes, many students and staff feel that there are important things that need to be fixed. The feedback shows that if management practices were improved and people were more educated about how the system works, everyone’s experience could get better. As schools become more modern, it’s important to have ongoing discussions about E-Hall Pass to balance keeping track of students with making sure everyone is happy with the system.
