Drama Club is somewhere students can take creative liberty to act out a musical/other plays directed by Ms. Kari Collins. Every year there is a new musical that takes place in the Spring that is not released until about midway through the school year.
EHHS performs two plays per year: one in the fall and one in the spring. The musical performed in the spring last year was The Addams Family. The fall play of the 2023-24 school year will be the Student Staged Readings and the spring will be a musical. The musical was just recently announced on the Drama Club Instagram page as Curtains. Prior to announcing, Ms. Collins was waiting for confirmation from the company to announce the play to the club and to the students of EHHS. Auditions will be held on January 3rd. An information session will take place on December 7th.
The Drama Club hosted Student Staged Readings this fall. Student Staged Readings are where the students involved will work on a few original plays where they workshop with the plays and edit the plays. The student actors performed the original plays on December 2nd at 7:00 PM. There are about 20 students involved in the club who will be participating in this Student Staged Reading. Previously, Drama Club had been hosting a “play in a day.”The students basically learn a student-written play in one day and then perform it. This year with the Student Staged Readings, the club is doing a version of the play in a day, but giving more time to everyone to perfect the play.
Prior to the staged readings, drama club hosted Try-Tober and a series of other events for the actors to practice their speaking and listening skills. The best way to go about joining the Drama Club is to go to Ms. Collins herself and tell her of your interests. There are many preconceived ideas of what people who participate in drama are, but these are just ideas. Everyone is welcome to join and are appreciated. If you do not feel comfortable performing there is always room for people to join backstage crew, but there are also many opportunities to join ensemble.
Ms. Collins says that if you are thinking of joining drama club, to see herself or a member of the club because she “genuinely believes people would enjoy it if they tried it.”
