The EHHS yearbook club meets every Monday to work on and design the 2023 yearbook with their advisors, Mrs. Gardner and Ms. Wright. They meet for about an hour each week, but also work on the book outside of meeting time in order to reach their deadlines.

Currently, the members of the yearbook club are Melania Korenovsky, Glerys Ramirez, Izabella Olszewski, Emilee Gargano, Filomena DiNuzzo, Madison DiNuzzo, Noah Franchi, Courtney Carvajal, Julia Crisci, Giana Carr, Olivia Martin, Kevin Lawlor, Widman Vicuna, Ella Angelo, Sydney Herard, Abigail Brooks, Oliver Kabel, Beauney Mera, Angelly Cordova, Kayla DeLuca, Nicholas Demetrio, Brianna Fernandez, and Amanda Kaleba.

Melania Korenovsky is the Editor-In-Chief and Izabella Olsweski is the copy editor of the yearbook. The yearbook club’s main focus is taking pictures. A yearbook member will take pictures at all big events, like pep rallies, spirit days, Homecoming, Prom, or sports events. They also use pictures from Steady photography, Mr. Curcio (EHHS social studies teacher), and any student photographers that are willing to contribute good pictures to the yearbook. To choose pictures for the book they consider the variety of students in the pictures, what works best visually, and what are the clearest pictures. Mrs. Gardner said they want to make sure “a variety of kids are shown throughout the book.” They use templates from the Jostens program, Yearbook Avenue, to import their pictures and organize pages. Everyone has access to this template, letting everyone see who is on track. The Yearbook Club team uses Google Classroom a lot to communicate with each other, keep up with deadlines, and get help when needed.

To design the yearbook the members start the year by brainstorming a theme for the entire book. They take that theme and come up with ideas for what the cover will look like to represent this theme. They take this design idea to an artist that creates the cover. Melania said the theme of the yearbook last year was “Sticking Together because it represented how challenging it was while transitioning to normal from Covid.” Melania and her advisors were proud of the book created last year but wished more students would collaborate with them so they can include more quotes. This way, the book would represent the students more. The theme of the book this year will be Florence and Flourish, meaning to grow and flourish.

Some things Melania likes about the yearbook club is it is very satisfying and relaxing for her. She enjoys working with her advisors, as it helps her and others learn to work with people. Yearbook allows her to become more connected with the school and she loves talking to new people that she normally wouldn’t talk to. Izabella loves the people and advisors of the yearbook club, that it is a happy and positive environment, and that you have some creative freedom when designing pages. Mrs. Gardner said the yearbook is “a physical memory of each school year that students can look back on to help them reminiscence about their high school years, relive moments from a particular school year, and think about kids they used to know.” The Yearbook club allows students to be part of a club that represents the community. Ms. Wright said, “the club offers a way for the community to see the amazing things kids do and shows off those events and experiences.”

You are able to join the yearbook club up until March, which is when the yearbook needs to be completed for the deadline. Mrs. Wright said students should not be intimidated to join the club throughout the year. If you have an interest, you should join to share new ideas. Melania said people should join because it is a great way of learning new skills that only yearbook can teach you. You will improve your writing, get to know the school, and have an opportunity to be creative. Mrs. Wright added to this by saying students should join the yearbook club because it “helps you see what really goes on at school, all the different events, clubs, and work on a lot of skills.” These skills include computer, writing, interview, and ad-selling skills, which will all help you in the real world.

Usually, about 200 yearbooks are sold each year. Seniors purchase the most because they want something to remember their high school career. The younger students sometimes think they don’t need a yearbook from earlier years of high school. Students also might not buy a yearbook if they feel they are not a part of the community. Melania thinks students should buy a yearbook so their family or future family can see their success, experiences, and life from their time at EHHS. Izabella thinks you should buy one to look back on memories from high school. Yearbooks are sold until March and students can order them by going to Jostens Website.

The yearbook committee works extremely hard all year on putting the yearbook together and, since it is such a huge project to complete, it is a great accomplishment for them all. Anyone who would like to feel more connected to people in the school and be a part of something in the community should join the yearbook committee.
