The EHHS boys varsity soccer team has made a strong comeback from the last few seasons and will be going to the State Championship beginning in November. This season has come with its own learning experiences and challenges that the team worked to overcome.
Sebastian Suno Lopez, a centerfielder, shares: “We’ve had an up and down type of year. We had games where we dominated and games that we were dominated in, so we had to find the middle ground to get back on track and hopefully make states.” The team currently has a record of 4-8 so it’s nothing but up from here.
Alejandro Rosillo believes the team’s bond affects their play on the field. He shared, “ Yes definitely our bond grows each and every one of us closer, whether it’s getting food after games or staying cool and calm in heated moments during a match, we stick together through it all.” He also added, “Even after our tough 0-3 start to the season we still adapted to one another and pushed through to get our first win of the season in game 4.” The Boys first win of the season occurred on September 3rd with a 5-1 over Sheehan High School. The boys currently hold a 4-8 record on the year with their 3 other victories coming against Career-Hillhouse, Career Magnet, and North Branford.
Jeremy Mendez touches on what he and the team feels after a win and loss; “ Well it’s obvious everyone hates to lose, but it’s also a lesson and learning experience for our team and tells us what we need to work on in practice to be better. The feeling of celebrating after a hard fought victory is almost unexplainable,” Mendez remarked. It feels like a giant weight is being lifted off your shoulders because you performed amazing and got the job done with your brothers by your side.”
Our Yellow Jacket Boys Soccer team only has 7 games left in the season ending on October 18th. Come out and support and show your school spirit as they only need a few games to be .500 on the year and clinch states. The Boys upcoming matches are OCT 2 Away at Xavier, Home against Lyman Hall on OCT 4th at 10:00am and OCT 7th Home against Hamden at 7pm. Come on and cheer our boys on as we roll into October and their final 7 games!
