Bottle rockets have become a standard lab for the EHHS 9th graders in Mr. David Oshana and Mrs. Dianne Ruggerio’s Integrated Science L1 and Honors classes. They made bottle rockets out of cardboard, soda bottles, duct tape, and paper. Students were able to decorate a soda bottle and make it into a rocket, and using a bike air pump, launch it off a launch pad. The two teachers have received highly decorated bottles in the past, however this year made it a given rule that the attachments have to help the rocket, stuff like small wings with a design on them for example. Both teachers had said students would often over-decorate, which is why they told this year’s Freshman to scale down, and make them more rocket-like. They were launched on October 23rd and 24th by both teachers’ classes. The students did really well, one rocket from Mr. Oshana’s class had rivaled the all time record for distance. The rocket had gone 148ft coming very close to the record of 152ft set during the 2023-2024 school year.
